What Does it Mean for a Facility to be Accredited by the ACR?
It is important to choose a facility carefully and one good way to tell if a facility measures up is to find out if it is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
The American College of Radiology has certified Memorial MRI & Imaging Centers on all locations for all our OPEN and CLOSE MR equipment after a rigorous application process. In addition, our Toshiba Astion 16 Slice CT has also been ACR accredited. Our Nuclear Medicine has been ACR accredited since 2010. Echo/Vascular Ultrasound is in the process of being ICANL accredited. Our mammogram department is certified through the Texas Department of State Health Services since 2009.
The ACR evaluates qualifications of personnel, equipment performance, effectiveness of quality control measures, and quality of clinical images. It is believed that these are the primary factors that impact the quality of clinical images and the quality of patient care. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
This lengthy and expensive process translates into an assurance for clinicians and patients that they are receiving the best MRI possible. The accreditation is voluntary, and represents a commitment on MMD's behalf to going above and beyond when it comes to imaging excellence.
